CODE is open to all legal residents of Canada of the legal age of majority or older in their province or territory of residence, except employees, representatives or agents of XMG Studio Inc, employees of the Digital Policy Branch of Industry Canada, Treasury Board Secretariat, or any sponsors.
Team can be made up 1-4 people.
You can remove yourself from a team at any time. The option is available on the Team Page when signed in. If for some reason you need to remove a team member, and they cannot or will not remove themselves, you can contact [email protected] and we will evaluate the situation.

If you have any questions regarding Government of Canada datasets, technical issues, eligibility of applications or general inquiries, please do not hesitate to email and we will do our best to help.
VIP Hubs
If you’d like to participate at a VIP HUB you can submit a request on your Team Page. The CODE team will review your request and respond within 72 hours.
Partner HUBs
If you’d like to participate at a Partner HUB you can request to compete from the Partner HUB from your Team’s Page. Please remember that space at the Partner HUBs is given at a first come first served basis.
Food & Drinks
Some meals and beverages will be provided at the VIP HUBs. We will do our best to accommodate dietary needs, but can’t promise our food options will meet all needs. You are also allowed to bring your own food and drinks.
Some Partner HUBs may provide food, others may not, contact the HUB organizers directly for more information.
In order for your application to be eligible for judging it must:
To ensure a level field for all contestants, all code, design, art, and audio assets must be created during the duration of the CODE 2015 hackathon. But, you are encouraged to use 3rd party services, APIs, open source projects, libraries, and frameworks. You only have 48 hours and this will allow you to focus on the innovation of your application.
You are allowed to make plans and brainstorm prior to the event. You are also allowed to use material that is freely available to the public, like public domain images, creative commons music, open source libraries and the like.
We require access to your repository so we can review your code and ensure all participants have followed the rules.
All teams retain full ownership of what they have created during CODE 2015.
By submitting your application, you give CODE 2015 and the Government of Canada permission to showcase your app or website for the purposes of marketing, advertising or promoting any of the sponsors, their products or services.
Failure to comply may result in the offending team's disqualification.
The Top 15 teams will be invited to participate in Pitch Day. Here you will pitch your application to our judges and potential investors. The judges will make the decision on the Grand Prize and Category Prizes based on your pitch.
At least one team member must be able to attend Pitch Day on March 16th, 2015 in order for your application to be eligible for the Top 15 placement.
All category winning teams will be invited to attend the Grand Finale where we will announce the Grand Champion.
At least one team member must be able to attend the Grand Finale on March 26th, 2015 in order for your application to be eligible for any prizes.
